The Pasadena Educational Foundation Announces the Winner of the Inaugural Rock 4 PEF Battle of the Bands



Battle of the Bands Winning teen-band, Serenegades

Teen-band Serenegades wins the Pasadena Educational Foundation’s ROCK 4 PEF Battle of the Bands held on Sunday, September 21, 2014 at Levitt Pavilion and hosted by comedian and NBC’s About a Boy star Al Madrigal. Over 600 families, friends, and music fans came out to watch the inaugural Battle of the Bands featuring almost 50 local kids and teens from 12 different bands competing to win their chance to play before Brian and Nikki from Silversun Pickups at the ROCK 4 PEF Music Festival on October 5, 2014 at the Farnsworth Park Amphitheater. This extraordinary evening of music will also feature Pasadena homegrown favorite Ozma. America’s Got Talent’s Taylor Mathews, and the soulful Melissa Polinar. TV’s Malcolm in the Middle star Jane Kaczmarek, who is also a PEF Board member, and Sugarcult founder and lead guitarist Marko DeSantis will join the star-studded line up on October 5 to help support music education programs in our local public schools.

Pasadena-area bands have been competing in the Battle of the Bands to win a spot in the ROCK 4 PEF line-up, a recording session at Crown City Studios, and professionally designed band artwork from The CRP Group. The first stage of the competition was an online voting campaign that received almost 4,000 online votes and included a special panel of judges representing many facets of the music industry. The six bands that moved into the finals from the online voting campaign were Eclectic Waves, Nevaeh, Road2Somewhere, Serenegades, The Breaks, and Vital Noise,

The live concert at Levitt Pavilion was the final stage of the Battle of the Bands competition and was judged by a panel of five judges including artist manager Steve Nice, Radio Disney DJ Maddy Whitby, singer/songwriter Taylor Mathews, Rhino Entertainment’s David Kapp, and Sugarcult’s Marko DeSantis. Serenegades, who are Justin Berger-Davis (bass), Tommy Goldstein (drums), Olivia Painter (vocals and guitar), and Chris Wynne (guitar) are all 16 years-old. The judges also selected all girl band Nevaeh, from Marshall Fundamental High School, as the runner-up. Nevaeh, who are Katelyn Hampton (vocals), Elisa Pitts (bass), Anna Mudica (guitar), Sofia Enger, (vocals), Bess Brandow (guitar), and Faith Malicdem (drums) are all 13 years-old.
