Authorities issued 17 citations for violations of Pasadena’s ban on fireworks on Independence Day, officials said.
In addition to the 17 tickets issued as of 2 a.m. on July 4, another three were written in the days leading up to the holiday, city spokeswoman Lisa Derderian said. Additional citations were possible as enforcement continued on Monday.
The city recently amended its municipal code to allow for property owners or tenants who allow fireworks to be used on their properties to be held responsible, in addition to those actually lighting them.
Police and fire officials confiscated roughly 50 pounds of fireworks this season, she added.
No fireworks-related injuries or fires were reported Sunday, Derderian said. But three longtime Pasadenans lost their home at 894 N. Summit Ave. on June 8 in a blaze blamed on fireworks ignited by a child living next door.
Police reported no significant incidents during the AmericaFest fireworks display at the Rose Bowl.

I can’t say strongly enough how grateful we are for PPD’s very quick responses to fireworks leading up to the holiday. We didn’t even have to call- it was just taken care of in minutes. The large booms that continued until 1:00 a.m. on the 5th are another matter. The booms were loud enough to be heard over the shower and to wake you up. I wonder why those displays weren’t shut down?
