The 1886 Bar at The Raymond will officially introduce Parlor Hour on Tuesday, July 12, and will observe it every Tuesday through Friday from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

Research revealed that there was a room in the “Royal Raymond,” the Raymond Hotel’s original name, called The Parlor.

The Parlor was “An area facing a large bay window in the main rotunda that was known as the “Amen Corner” and a number of cronies gathered there every evening to swap stories, gossip, smoke, and enjoy their highballs.” – an excerpt from A Gentleman of the Old School: Walter Raymond and the Raymond Hotel by Arthur E. Raymond (Walter Raymond’s son).

This room was referred to as the Ladies Grand Parlor during a portion of the day when “women would meet and have appropriate conversation and, of course, afternoon tea,” stated Images of America: South Pasadena’s Raymond Hotel by Rick Thomas.

In tribute to this historical gathering place for both men and women, 1886 Bar is introducing Parlor Hour so their guests can gather and enjoy special offerings. The 1886 Champagne Punch will be available at $6.00 by the glass. This Champagne Punch is usually served for groups of six or more, an assortment of Strawberry Shrub bubbled over with Champagne that is prepared and served from a teapot. The concoction was inspired from an original recipe served during one of the opening events at The Raymond Hotel in 1886, and will change seasonally.

1886 Bar will also be offering $4.00 bottled artisan beers, a selection of $5.00 wines by the glass, and a daily special hand-crafted artisan cocktail for $7.00. Chef Tim Guiltinan will also be serving his 1886 Bar menu each day along with several special offerings that will be highlighted on the 1886 chalkboard for guests to enjoy specifically during this special time.

Parlor Hour takes place every Tuesday through Friday from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. 1886 at The Raymond opens at 4:30 pm every Tuesday through Sunday evening, and is also open from 11:30 am to 3:00 pm on Fridays, and 9:00 am to 3:00 pm every Saturday and Sunday. The Raymond serves dinner every Tuesday through Sunday evening, and serves Brunch and Lunch Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
