[UPDATED] Two men clung to life at a hospital after they were severely wounded in a shooting in Pasadena on Monday night, police said.

Witnesses reported hearing gunfire about 9:45 p.m. in a residential neighborhood in the 1000 block of North Summit Avenue, Pasadena police Lt. Sean Dawkins said.

A short time later, police were notified that two men had been brought to a local emergency room by a private car with gunshot wounds, he said.

Both wounded men suffered injuries described as life-threatening, according to the lieutenant. One was a 24-year-old Pasadena man, and the other was a 24-year-old Altadena man.

A third intended target of the shooting, described as a 30-year-old El Monte man, was not struck by the gunfire, Dawkins said.

Officers found evidence of the shooting along Summit Avenue, but no suspect description was available, he said.

Detectives were investigating the shooting as a double-attempted murder.

The shooting was the second time gunfire was reported in Pasadena on Monday.

Shots were fired about 10:45 a.m. in a parking lot at the southeast corner of Fair Oaks Avenue and Washington Boulevard, police said.

Two parked cars were struck by gunfire, but no injuries were reported, Lt. Anthony Russo said. A man in a hooded sweatshirt was being sought in connection with the incident.
