2 Pasadena Men Killed in Shooting at Villa Parke Identified

Authorities on Thursday released the identities of two Pasadena men who were fatally shot, along with a third victim who was critically wounded, in an attack at Villa Parke in Pasadena on Tuesday afternoon.

Cristino Medellin Avila, 51, and Aaron Perez Flores, 40, were killed in the 3 p.m. shooting in the northeast section of the park, near Parke Street and Los Robles Avenue, according to Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner spokeswoman Sarah Ardalani. Police described both as Pasadena residents.

Another man was hospitalized in critical-but-stable condition following the shooting, according to Pasadena police officials.

The three victims were sitting on a park bench when they came under fire, police said in a written statement. The attacker or attackers were believed to have fled the area in a dark-colored sedan.

No further suspect description was available, nor were further details regarding the circumstances of the shooting.

Paramedics pronounced Avila dead at the scene, Ardalani said. Flores was taken to a hospital, where he succumbed to his wounds a little over three hours later.

City officials including Mayor Elect Victor Gordo, City Manager Steve Mermell and Police Chief John Perez planned to take part in an online discussion regarding the shooting at 5 p.m. on Thursday.
