Public health officials reported three new cases of COVID-19 in Pasadena on Tuesday, which came after two straight days without a single reported infection, officials said.

With no new fatalities reported in the city, Pasadena had recorded a total of 2,655 novel coronavirus infections and 129 deaths, according to city data.

Huntington Hospital reported treating 25 COVID-19 patients on Tuesday.

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health reported 790 new infections and 18 deaths in the county on Tuesday, but added that reporting was lagging due to the holiday weekend.

Just under 700 patients were hospitalized with the virus, county health officials said. Twenty-seven percent of them were being treated in intensive care units.

Officials also provided an update on infections and fatalities among healthcare workers.

A total of 16,080 healthcare workers have been infected with COVID-19, and 99 of them have died, the L.A. County Department of Public Health said in a written statement.

“The number of new weekly cases among healthcare workers has declined from 704 new cases reported for the week of July 4 to 368 new cases reported last week,” the statement said.

Nurses bore the brunt, representing 36% of total healthcare worker infections and 43% of the fatalities, officials said.

L.A. County Director of Public Health Barbara Ferrer commended local businesses for following public health guidelines as they continue the process of slowly reopening.

“I would like to thank the businesses that continue to do their part to minimize COVID-19 spread by adhering to the Health Officer Order protocols,” she said. “Recent inspections at newly opened sectors, including nail salons, beauty salons, indoor shopping malls and cardrooms found the majority of businesses were in compliance with the safety directives.

At the state level, authorities reported 2,376 new infections and nine additional deaths on Tuesday, raising the state’s totals to 852,406 cases of the virus and 16,581 deaths.

The positivity rate over the prior seven days had inched up to 2.7%, according to a California Department of Public Health statement. The 14-day average was 2.6%

As of Tuesday, L.A. County represented 33% of California COVID-19 cases and 41% of the state’s fatalities.
