Pasadena saw another day of single-digit COVID-19 infections and no additional deaths Tuesday, as public health officials announced more than 40% of Pasadenans over 16 years old had been fully vaccinated against the virus.

Two new infections were detected, according to city spokeswoman Lisa Derderian. The city’s pandemic totals stood at 11,182 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 339 deaths.

An average of 3.6 new infections were found daily over the prior week, according to city data. Since March 26, the largest number of infections detected in a single day has been eight.

Meanwhile, as the city’s vaccination efforts continued in earnest, the Pasadena Public Health Department reported that 76,454 Pasadena residents, representing 64.9% of the city’s population over 16 years old, had received one dose of two-dose vaccine regimens.

Another 47,738 Pasadenans, or 40.5% of the population over 16 years old, had been fully vaccinated.

Huntington Hospital reported treating 11 COVID-19 patients on Tuesday. None were being treated in intensive care units.

At the county level, the Los Angeles County Department of Health reported 448 new infections and 23 deaths on Monday, raising the totals to 1,226,596 documented COVID-19 cases and 23,498 fatalities.

Officials reported 471 patients were being treated at county hospitals, with 25% of them in intensive care units.

While restrictions are gradually lifting and more people are getting vaccinated each day, vigilance is still needed to keep the virus in check, according to L.A. County Director of Public Health Barbara Ferrer.

“We have moderate transmission in L.A. County, so it remains necessary to continue taking steps to prevent increases in cases to keep our recovery from stalling,” she said.

“One important tool for reducing transmission are vaccines,” Ferrer added. “And while we all need to follow the FDA and CDC recommendation to pause the use of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine as they conduct their review, we encourage residents to keep their appointments to get vaccinated with the Moderna and Pfizer vaccine. We are grateful to the researchers and scientists working to ensure that all medications or vaccines, including the COVID-19 vaccines, meet the highest safety standards.”

The California Department of Public Health announced 1,568 new COVID-19 infections and 9 deaths. It was unclear why the agency listed fewer deaths statewide than were reported for the same time period in L.A. County alone.

The state’s average positivity rate over the prior week remained static at 1.5%, according to CDPH data.

As of Friday, L.A. County accounted for 34% of California’s COVID-19 infections and 40% of the state’s deaths.
