More than 81% of Pasadena seniors have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine, officials said Wednesday.

Pasadena Public Health Department officials reported 18,363 of Pasadena’s roughly 22,478 residents 65 and older had received at least one dose as of Tuesday, amounting to 81.7%.

In all, 33,865 Pasadenans have been inoculated with the first dose of a two-dose vaccine regimen, according to city spokeswoman Lisa Derderian. Another 20,248 people have received both injections, according to city data.

The vaccines have only been approved thus far for use in people over 16, officials said. As of Tuesday, 28.7% of Pasadena residents 16 and older had received at least one dose of vaccine.

City officials were tracking demographic information associated with the vaccinations, although information was not available for about 17% of first doses administered in the city.

But based on the available data, White and Asian/Pacific Islander populations were being vaccinated at significantly higher rates than other groups, according to a city memo.

With acknowledgments to missing race data, White (non-Hispanics) currently have the highest rate of vaccination in Pasadena at almost 2.5 times and 1.6 times the rates of their Latinx and Black/African-American counterparts, respectively,” according to the memo.

With vaccine eligibility under state guidelines being expanded to groups including teachers, child care providers, food workers, agricultural workers, and emergency workers this week, the Pasadena Public Health Department has been working to procure additional vaccine doses to inoculate people in those professions, city officials said via social media. The vast majority of emergency responders in the city have been vaccinated.

Childcare and K-12 education workers should first contact their primary healthcare provider or local pharmacy for vaccine availability,” according to the statement. “Pasadena childcare and K-12 education workers unable to get vaccinated through their healthcare provider or local pharmacy can submit this inquiry form to receive information on how to get vaccinated when more doses become available: bit.ly/3q7MGtF.”

For more information, or for assistance with the form, the Pasadena Citizen Service Center can be reached at (626) 744-7311.
