98-Year-Old Webster’s Community Pharmacy in Altadena Moving to New Location

Webster’s Community Pharmacy, a cornerstone of health and wellness and community in Altadena for decades, is moving to a new location in about six weeks, the owners announced on Friday. The owners, Michael and Meredith Miller, said they’re moving to a brand-new, state-of-the-art facility at 2333 Lake Avenue, in the Chase Plaza Building, just one block away from its current location.

The move represents not only a shift in physical address but also a reaffirmation of the store’s  enduring commitment to serving the community for nearly a century, according to the Millers.

Webster’s Community Pharmacy, a full-service prescription pharmacy that also carries medical supplies and houses a post office branch, has been part of the Altadena landscape since 1926.

“We are at the end of our long-term lease in our current building, and we are not able to renew the lease or renegotiate a new lease, and so we decided to move our business rather than close it or sell it off,” Meredith Miller said on Friday. “And in light of the fact that Webster has been in Altadena for 98 years and we’re all looking forward to celebrating our hundredth, we made the best decision that it really was; the wisest decision was just to move the business and keep it going.”

Miller said the new location has a smaller footprint than the current store, so they will have to focus on being a state-of-the-art pharmacy and will continue to enhance their offerings.

“For example, doing all the kinds of immunizations that one would like to have these days, including COVID, and being able to have one-on-one consultations with customers or patients as their healthcare partner,” she said. “We’re going to have some new state-of-the-art equipment that will make things much more convenient and quick to do our prescription filling.”

With ample parking and a contemporary streamlined layout, the new Webster’s Community Pharmacy is poised to maintain its reputation for outstanding service and care, Miller said.

The Millers said they’re committed to ensuring that customers receive the same level of personalized attention and expert guidance they have been getting over the years.

“We’re continuing to run our day-to-day business and continuing to service our patients, our customers, as we do every day,” Miller said. “Pharmacies cannot afford to shut down for one day, so we will be working 24 hours a day over a few weekends and having what I’ll call a seamless transition into the new location for our patients. They don’t have to do anything to get their prescriptions transferred.”

With a team of seasoned pharmacists and dedicated staff members, Miller said the pharmacy remains steadfast in its commitment to providing expert guidance and support to the community.

In addition to pharmaceutical offerings, Webster’s also sells a curated selection of gifts and greeting cards, and this will continue to be provided at the new location; patrons will have even more reasons to visit and explore, she said.

“Nothing will be changing as far as the pharmacy goes,” said Miller. “People will be able to pick up their prescriptions and do everything they normally do. We’ll say goodnight to them on a Saturday and we will say hello to them in our new location on a Monday morning.”
