A Noise Within Announces 2020-2021 Season Schedule

'Alice in Wonderland,' 'Sweeney Todd' highlight season

A Noise Within (ANW) announced its 2020-2021 season theme Spirits Rising.

The ANW Producing Artistic Directors Julia Rodriguez-Elliott and Jeff Elliot broadcasted their announcement from the Redmond Stage during a Facebook Live event on Wednesday.

“Through the ages and from the ashes of troubled times, the human spirit, indomitable and eternal, rises,” said Geoff Elliott and Julia Rodriguez-Elliott. “Yes, we have all been united by particularly strange and trying days of late. And across the globe, along with inevitable chaos and conflict, our better angels are on shining display. Kindness, empathy, a helping hand to a stranger; these are the human qualities A Noise Within chooses to celebrate in our season. Hence our 2020-2021 season theme, Spirits Rising!”

Season pass holders, both new and returning, will have the chance to access priority seating beginning today.

Public sales of single seats will go on sale to the public beginning on Tuesday June 9th.

ANW’s new season will begin this autumn with a production of Lewis Carroll’s “Alice in Wonderland” running from August 22nd to September 13th.

Stephanie Shroyer will direct the classic play. She previously directed the “Madwoman of Chaillot,” during the repertoires 2017-2018 season.

After Alice’s run the company will produce “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street” which will run from September 27th to November 15th, and will be directed by Julia Rodriguez-Elliot. Rodriguez-Elliot the Biried Child, which garnered the LA Times Critics Choice Award.

“Last season, only a handful of audiences saw our delightful and moving production of Alice in Wonderland, and we’re excited to not only bring Alice back but also to give everyone a chance to see Sondheim’s preeminent musical thriller Sweeney Todd.” said Geoff Elliott and Julia Rodriguez-Elliott

Beginning from October 18 through November 22nd ANW will run Sweeney Todd in repertory with Tony Award nominated Radio Golf as it continues its production of the final installment of the 10 -play American Century Cycle by Pulitzer Prize winner August Wilson.

Gregg T. Daniel, who directed 2019’s season’s Ovation recommended and L.A. Times Critics Choice “Gem of the Ocean” is the director of Radio Golf.

Charles Dickens “A Christmas Carol,” will close the 2020 season, running from December 4th through December 23rd, 2020. The Elliott’s have adapted it to the stage with all new music composed by ANW resident artist Robert Oriol.

2021 will open with a production of “Metamorphoses,” which was nominated for a Tony Award, and is set in a pool of water on the ANW stage. This exciting production will start February 7th and close on May 7, 2021.

Metamorphoses will run in rotating repertory through the spring with Lisa Peterson and Denis O’Hare’s “An Iliad” (February 28 – May 9, 2021), directed by Julia Rodriguez-Elliott, and William Shakespeare’s comedy A Midsummer Night’s Dream (April 4 – May 16, 2021), which have the water as their setting in common.
