Arsonist Sets Fire to a Parked Car

An arsonist set fire to a 2007 Suzuki Forenza parked in the 1300 block of N. Mentor Ave. early Monday.

Investigators responded to a report of  a “loud explosion” at 2:40 a.m. and found the burning sedan near the intersection of Mentor and East Washington Boulevard, Lt. Tom Delgado told the Pasadena Star-News.

“A loud explosion was heard by a witness, a fire erupted and the witness called 9-1-1,” Delgado added.

Police is still trying to find out the cause of fire, but initial investigation showed no indication of gang activity and that the crime points to arson, Pasadena Fire Department Lisa Derderian told the newspaper.

The fire started and was contained in the passenger area. The “loud explosion” and shattered windows were probably caused by the heat inside the car, Derderian told the Star-News. Fire and water caused notable damage in the sedan.

She added that witnesses saw a man flew the scene.
