Assemblymember Holden Names College Access Plan Named 41st Assembly District’s Nonprofit of the Year

The California Association of Nonprofits recently hosted a ceremony where 109 legislators recognized a nonprofit from their district.

In the 41st Assembly District’s 2022 Nonprofit of the Year, Assemblymember Chris Holden has chosen to honor the College Access Plan, a nonprofit organization based in Pasadena that fosters meaningful interactions to assist students and their families through any and all college readiness and success steps, supporting them as they navigate the journey from middle school through college graduation.

“It is my pleasure to recognize College Access Plan as the 41st Assembly District’s Nonprofit of the Year,” Holden said in a prepared statement. “True to their mission, College Access Plan supports equitable access to college degrees for all students. It is critical to thank community partners that understand the advantages of dual enrollment and help students actualize their goals.”

Under the leadership of Mo Hyman, Executive Director, College Access Plan continues to be a catalyst for student empowerment and success. Their student advisory council is unique in that it not only provides aspiring students the perspective and insights from their peers, but also guides the advisory board to be more responsive to students’ needs.

Their signature drop-in program serves students at four Pasadena Unified School District high schools, (Blair, John Muir, Marshall Fundamental, and Pasadena high schools) with one-to-one college knowledge in a dynamic computer lab setting that encourages peer collaboration. College Access Plan’s services reduce and remove the barriers to entry to higher education, where students and families thrive and opportunity are accessible to all.

“By offering various programs, College Access Plan helps to include the families and the student whether it is through the application process, scholarships, and career discovery,” said Holden.
