Gunfire at Villa Parke in Pasadena on Tuesday afternoon left two men dead and another wounded, authorities said.

The shooting took place just after 3 p.m. at the north end of the park, along Parke Street just west of Los Robles Avenue, according to Pasadena Police Department officials.

Responding police officers encountered three wounded men, Lt. William Grisafe said.

Paramedics pronounced one of the victims dead at the scene, according to police and fire officials.

A second victim was hospitalized in critical condition with injuries described as life-threatening, according to Grisafe. He was pronounced dead a short time later.

The third shooting victim was hospitalized in critical-but-stable condition.

No suspects were in custody.

“Preliminary investigation revealed the victims were at a park bench in the northeast portion of the park when the suspect(s) fired upon them and fled in a vehicle, possibly described as a dark colored sedan,” police said in a written statement.

No further details were available as the investigation remained in its early stages. Police asked the public to avoid the area.

Pasadena Mayor-Elect Victor Gordo condemned the violence.

“I send my condolences to the family of the victims and await more details on this horrific incident,”. “We’ve seen far too many incidents of gun violence in the last few months. We have to take a different approach.”

“I am going to ask the Public Safety Committee to work with the city manager and the police chief to find an approach that is effective in stopping the violence in and around our parks.”
