Autumn Arrives in Pasadena With a Heat Wave

Published on Friday, September 23, 2022 | 5:57 am

It’s officially Autumn! But cool air and mild temperatures will not be greeting Pasadenans but rather a heat wave is expected to grip the region, with gradually increasing temperatures throughout the weekend.

“High pressure will build over the region through early next week, producing a warming trend through the period. Temperatures will be 5 to 10 degrees above normal through Saturday, then 10 to 20 degrees above Sunday through Tuesday,” according to the National Weather Service on Thursday, Sept 22.

The NWS further explained this is the result of an upper level high pressure over Texas which is expected to move westward from now until Tuesday, bringing clear skies and warm temperatures throughout Southern California.

Meteorologist Mark Moede told Pasadena Star-News this incoming heat wave should not be as intense as that in late August and early September, and will not have the abnormal humidity fueled by Tropical Storm Kay.

“This is a different kind of heat wave,” Moede said in the report. “We’re in the tail end of monsoon season now.”

By Wednesday, a trough – which means lower temperatures – is forecast to extend southward from the Gulf of Alaska through at least the San Francisco area, bringing cooler weather southward starting midweek through next weekend.

This Thursday, temperatures were generally up 5 to 10 degrees except for the far interior that was already warm.

Here is the forecast for the upcoming week, as per the National Weather Service,
