A noisy baby shower grew into a major disturbance Saturday night, with the guests aggressively confronting police and throwing beer cans at officers, according to police.
Lt. Anthony Burgess said officers were called to the scene in the 900 block of North Summit Ave. twice in response to complaints by neighbors of excessive noise, the first time at 10:52 p.m.
Burgess said officers delivered a verbal warning to turn down the music and left.
Officers returned later in response to continuing complaints.
During the second response, partygoers became hostile. The crowd, estimated at 50 people, aggressively confronted the officers, who radioed a call for an emergency backup, Burgess said.
“[The officers at the scene] were overwhelmed by an unruly crowd,” Burgess said.
Responding officers used force to arrest two men. An unknown person hurled a beer can at one officer, grazing his head, Burgess said.
Two men were arrested for public intoxication and resisting arrest. Burgess said the two arrested men were brothers Alan Corona, 18, and Angel Corona, 19, both of Los Angeles. The pair were cited and released.
No injuries were reported.
