A very large crowd of parents and supporters gathered for Pasadena Southwest Little League’s (PSWLL) opening day on March 11, signaling the start of a new season.

“We had an absolutely amazing opening day! Although it was changed due to the weather and we had already played a few games, everyone came out to support the league,” Nick Smith, who is serving as the league’s president this season, said. “We had over 1000 people at Allendale Park and Stan Gray field for the event.”

Mayor Victor Gordo and PSWLL board members Robert Tomasello and Mathew Alexander threw out the first pitches to get the season started.

The Pasadena Fire department also came out with the fire truck for the players and families to enjoy.

“We greatly appreciate all of the support from all of the leagues and the local community!” Smith said.

According to Smith, PSWLL welcomes this season as its 70th year anniversary playing little league baseball as a league.

Players aged 5 to 14 years participate in the league, which operates baseball and softball programs. It is funded through player registration fees, donations and sponsorships.

Smith said approximately 400 players from 28 teams will participate this season.

The games will be held at five different fields in Pasadena.

“We have games almost every week night and all day on Saturday at Allendale and multiple other fields in Pasadena,” he said.

For this season, those who cannot watch their kids play in-person can do so via online.

“This season has a few new and exciting things happening for PSWLL.  We have embraced our livestream audience and are making a majority of our AAA and Majors division games available for livestream on our youtube channel.”

“This has received tremendous feedback from PSWLL families who are out of town or grandparents who can now enjoy their grandchildren playing baseball from other states.”

As per Smith PSWLL enjoys support from local businesses who are sponsoring the league which include Don Fransisco Coffee, Gus’s BBQ, Panda Express, Mi Sueno Speech Therapy, Quantasy, Los Tacos, and HUF Worldwide.

The season ends in the middle of May.
