Boxing returns to Centennial Square later this month when the City’s Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department hosts its 9th Annual Centennial Square Boxing Show event in front of City Hall, 100 N. Garfield Ave.
On August 23, the free, family-friendly event will feature 12 bouts of action-packed, Olympic-style boxing, with both male and female competitors ages 8 and older.
The evening kicks off with the national anthem and a color guard presentation from Pasadena’s 2nd Battalion, 23rd Marine Regiment. Attendees will also enjoy DJ music, classic cars on display, and food for purchase.
Scores of hopeful future Olympians and professionals have undergone training with the Villa-Parke Boxing Program, hosted by boxing specialist Fausto De La Torre.
The popular program focuses on preparing youth for competition on a local, regional and national level, and teaches the fundamentals of Olympic-style boxing, conditioning for weight loss and fitness and health and nutritional awareness.
All phases of training include a strong focus on physical fitness, nutrition and health, a description of the program on the city’s website says.
