Brandon Lamar Will Apply For District 3 Seat

The District 3 candidate that finished in second place in the June 3 primary confirmed to Pasadena Now on Wednesday that he plans to seek the seat via the appointment process.

“I will be applying to be the next representative of District 3,” Lamar said. “No other applicant for appointment can say they demonstrated the depth of commitment in the past year in District 3.”

Lamar finished second to John Kennedy in the primary. Lamar finished with 41.15% of the vote.

Kennedy died in July. A celebration of his life will be held in front of City Hall on Sept. 30.

The City Council has until Oct. 4 to appoint a new District 3 representative to finish Kennedy’s current term.

In December, the City Council must conduct the process again to cover the second vacancy, this one caused by Kennedy reelection in June.

Although several council members expressed a desire for the voters to decide at the ballot in a special election, the charter is clear.

The City Council must make the appointment within 75 days of the creation of the vacancy.

The voters will get their say in 2024 at the next general municipal election.

“Even though I didn’t win the 2022 Primary Election, I’ve knocked on every door, made thousands of calls, and was present at community events to earn 41% of votes,” Lamar said. “For the past 10 months, I have been talking directly to the people in my District, listening to their concerns, suggestions, and solutions.”

“I not only live here but I’ve worked and served here in multiple capacities helping to advance our community,” Lamar said. “If appointed I would represent our voice at Pasadena City Hall. Appointing me to serve would carry forth this increased community engagement while continuing the path that has already been set before us by former great leadership.”
