Inspectors Red Tag 42 Units Uninhabitable, Hundreds More to Check

Published on Thursday, December 1, 2011 | 1:45 pm

Pasadena Fire Dept. spokesperson Lisa Derderian said this afternoon that city building inspectors have red tagged 42 living units in Pasadena as uninhabitable due to damage from last night’s windstroms, and that hundreds more must be checked.

Additionally, six units have been yellow tagged, which means access is severely limited, Derderian said.

Winds are expected to increase late today and continue throughout the night, making continuing inspections difficult if not impossible.

For those displaced by the red tagging, the Pasadena-area branch of the American Red Cross opened a shelter at  the Jackie Robinson Park Recreation Center at 1081 N. Fair Oaks Park in Pasadena.

Approximately 40 people, primarily elderly are in the shelter and the shelter will remain open until further notice. A dozen volunteers are at the scene including three who are translating and assisting the 8-10 residents who speak only Mandarin. The Red Cross is providing meals and other vital services.
