Another popular Pasadena business has succumbed to the pandemic, as Cafe 86 in Pasadena, which has been closed since stay-at-home measures were enacted in March, announced the location will not be reopening.

The other five Cafe 86 locations in Chino, Artesia, Mira Mesa, Chula Vista and Las Vegas have reopened, but the shop at 36 W. Colorado Blvd. at the heart of Old Pasadena, has been shuttered for good, co-owner Ginger Dimapasok sad.

“Pasadena was one of our favorite stores, so it was not an easy decision to make,” she said.

For more than five years, Cafe 88 has specialized in desserts and treats flavored and colored with ube, a purple yam originating in the Philippines, ranging from ube leche flan cupcakes to ube cheesecake.

While sad to be leaving Pasadena, Cafe 86 was hard at work at the other five locations.

“Everything’s swimming along. We’re doing the best we can, just hanging in there,” she said. Most importantly: “Everyone’s healthy.”
