According to the latest election update released Thursday,  Pasadena Board of Education President Patrick Cahalan and Tina Wu Fredericks inched closer to victories in Pasadena Unified School District Board Districts 4 and 6, respectively, after new votes were tallied.

Jennifer Hall Lee continued to lead in District 2 with 5,983 votes. Attorney Wayne Hammack and Realtor Mike Crowley were trailing with 3,662 and 3,495 votes, respectively.

Hall Lee declared victory on Tuesday after the first results were reported.

In District 4, incumbent Cahalan maintained a commanding lead on Wednesday. Cahalan had won 5,623 votes, with candidate Scott Harden garnering 3,078 votes.

Wu Fredericks led the District 6 contest with 4,434 votes. Priscilla Hernandez came in second with 3,344 votes, and Crystal Czubernat came in third with 3,134 of the ballots cast. Milena Albert came in fourth with 1,012 votes.

Wu Fredericks declared victory on Thursday.

“COVID-19 and fires did not deter us. We talked to voters through door cracks and closed windows, wearing face masks and did so despite 100-degree temperatures and bad air quality at times,” Wu Fredericks said.

“How I led my campaign is how I will lead as a future PUSD board member: bringing a community together around a shared vision and shared values,” she said. “This community believes in public education and understands that public schools can be the great equalizer in a sometimes unjust and inequitable society.”

The PUSD school board race was a plurality vote contest, with the candidate garnering the most total votes winning. Voting included residents of Pasadena, Altadena, and Sierra Madre, the three communities included in the PUSD.

“After Election Day there are still many outstanding ballots to be counted. During our official election canvass, all conditional voter registration ballots, provisional ballots, and vote-by-mail ballots received on Election Day are processed,” said Dean Logan, L.A. County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk.

“Once the ballots are verified, they will be counted,” Logan said.

The L.A. County Board of Supervisors is tentatively scheduled to declare the election officially concluded on Nov. 19.
