California State Controller Betty T. Yee has endorsed Anthony Portantino’s bid for the State Senate.

In a statement sent to the Anthony Portantino for State Senate campaign, Yee said Portantino is “a good friend and well-respected community leader.”

“He has worked hard to represent friends and neighbors across the foothills — which is why he has earned overwhelming local support. Anthony understands the importance of having our fiscal house in order, which is why I am looking forward to working with him in the Senate.I am excited to give him my complete support,” Yee commented.

Before she was elected as California’s chief fiscal officer, Yee was a member of the State Board of Equalization to which she was elected in 2006 representing 21 counties in northern and central California. As Controller, she continues to serve the Board as its fifth voting member.

A native of San Francisco, Yee has over 30 years of experience in public service, specializing in state and local finance and tax policy.

Yee joins mayors, councilmembers, school board members and institutions supporting Portantino in his bid for the 25th Senate District. The district stretches along the foothills from Sunland-Tujunga to Upland.

Portantino says he is honored by the expression of support from the Controller, who he says is someone “who understands the importance of fiscal stability.”

“She has a sound fiscal and progressive agenda for our state and I look forward to working with her in Sacramento for years to come,” Portantino said. “Having campaigned extensively herself in Los Angeles County and now working frequently in Los Angeles, Betty has a unique understanding of this district. I am grateful to have earned her trust and confidence.”

Other organizations that have expressed their support for Portantino include UA Local 78, The Teamsters Joint Council 42, AFT College Staff Guild, Laborers Local 777, five local Democratic Clubs, the California Small Business Association and the Association of Independent Commercial Producers.

Portantino is facing off with Republican Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael Antonovich in the impending General Election.
