On Wednesday the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announced an updated closure schedule for the bridge barrier upgrade project on the State Route 134 freeway over Arroyo Seco Natural Park in Pasadena.
According to the statement, the announcement said Caltrans planned to begin the bridge barrier demolition and reconstruction along both directions of the bridge “as soon as” this week.
These operations are expected to take place through at least September and will require intermittent closures of freeway facilities so that crews may safely conduct the work.
During this time, the following freeway facilities can be closed overnight on Monday through Thursday beginning as soon as 7 p.m. and ending by 6 a.m. the following morning:
- Eastbound Interstate 210 (I-210) connector to westbound SR 134
- Northbound I-710 connector to westbound SR 134
- Eastbound SR 134 on-ramp from San Rafael Avenue
- Westbound SR 134 off-ramp to San Rafael Avenue
- Eastbound SR 134 off-ramp to Orange Grove Boulevard
- Westbound SR 134 on-ramp from Orange Grove Boulevard
- Up to three lanes in each direction of SR 134 between Orange Grove Boulevard and San Rafael Avenue
The following facilities may close on Friday and Saturday beginning as soon as 7 p.m. and ending by 10 a.m. the next morning and on Sunday beginning at 6 p.m. and ending by 6 a.m. Monday:
- Eastbound Interstate 210 (I-210) connector to westbound SR 134
- Northbound I-710 connector to westbound SR 134
- Eastbound SR 134 off-ramp to Orange Grove Boulevard
- Westbound SR 134 on-ramp from Orange Grove Boulevard
- Up to three lanes in each direction of SR 134 between Orange Grove Boulevard and San Rafael Avenue
In addition, the following facilities may be closed during the daytime between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Monday through Friday:
- Eastbound Interstate 210 (I-210) connector to westbound SR 134
- Northbound I-710 connector to westbound SR 134
- Eastbound SR 134 on-ramp from San Rafael Avenue
- Westbound SR 134 off-ramp to San Rafael Avenue
Some closures may start later or end sooner than the times listed in these closure windows. Construction schedules are subject to change due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances. Motorists can check traffic conditions before they leave by visiting the Caltrans Quickmap.
Residents and local businesses located near the freeway may experience noise, vibrations and dust associated with construction activities.
