Cancer Support Community Appoints Three New Board Members

Cancer Support Community Pasadena (CSCP) announces that David Jones, Ph.D.,  Sandra Mejia, and Ruben Marquez Jr., have joined its Board of Directors. These three new board members have already proven to be outstanding assets to the board, furthering the mission of Cancer Support Community with their diverse backgrounds and expertise.

“We are delighted to welcome David, Ruben and Sandi to our Board. It is important that our board membership reflects the communities and families we serve. Each of our new Directors brings impressive strategic skills that will help CSCP continue to grow,” said Kal Antoun, President of the Board.

David Jones, Ph.D. Is a Clinical Psychologist with more than 40 years of practice in Pasadena. He returns to Cancer Support Community after serving as a member of the organization’s Professional Advisory Network from 1990-2005. His distinguished career is congruent with the organization’s mission. He is the Founder and Director of the Program for Psychologically Complicated Cancer Patients and Survivors and has been with Huntington Memorial Hospital in various roles for 35 years. In retirement, David focuses his free time on sharing his knowledge through community service and serving on multiple nonprofit and advisory boards in the area of medical healthcare. He is the co-founder of Hospice of Pasadena, Inc. David earned his doctoral degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of Southern California, and is a proud father and grandfather, residing in Altadena with his wife, Carole.

Ruben Marquez Jr. has been an active volunteer for CSCP for several years, successfully co-chairing CSCP’s virtual Angel Gala in 2021. He also lends his expertise in marketing and community outreach as a member of CSCP’s Guild of volunteers. Ruben has been in the interior design industry for over ten years and holds a degree in Interior Design from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles. He currently serves as Principal Interior Designer and Owner of Ruben Marquez Interior Design, a residential interior design firm for private residences in Pasadena, Beverly Hills, Calabasas, and Newport Beach, San Francisco, and Lake Tahoe. Ruben resides in Pasadena with his partner, Lucas Fiamenco.

Sandra Mejia is the third of six generations in Pasadena, with her family celebrating almost 100 years as a part of this community. She looks to her family as a strong example of the importance of education, hard work, and giving back to the community. Sandra holds a master’s degree in Business Administration and has worked in the accounting industry for over 40 years. Sandra is currently the owner of M&R Professional Services and CFO and principal of CIBA Property Management. She balances her professional and personal life serving on several boards and participating in many community committees. Sandra is one of four individuals who founded Latino Business Exchange, is Chair of the Pasadena Mexican American History Association, and serves as a Board Member for Pasadena City College Community Foundation. Her participation in the community has promoted business and community awareness with focus on the diversity of our environment. Sandra currently resides in Pasadena.

“Our Board is comprised of dedicated individuals who are leaders in our community and have a broad range of expertise. Every Director is passionate about our mission. This is an exciting time for all our 19 Directors as we transition to our new, permanent facility in Sierra Madre in Spring 2023,” said Patricia Ostiller, Executive Director.

Cancer Support Community Pasadena provides free support groups, educational workshops, and healthy lifestyle classes to cancer patients and their families, cancer survivors, and those bereaved in the greater San Gabriel Valley.
