A 17-year-old Fontana resident is in police custody after attempting a carjacking here in Pasadena on Sunday afternoon, according to officials.

The attempted carjacking occurred on the 1600 block of Fiske Avenue, when a 56-year-old female Pasadena resident, was pulling into her driveway at around 5 p.m.  Two suspects approached her and demanded her purse and car keys as she was exiting the vehicle, Lt. Russ of the Pasadena Police Dept. said.

At least one of the suspects was armed with a handgun, he added.

The victim apparently cooperated with the two suspects, handing over her purse and car keys before running to a neighbor’s house to call authorities, Russ added.

Shortly after police officials were notified, Russ said officers found the vehicle suspects near Washington Blvd. and Hudson Ave.

One of the suspects, a 17-year-old man, was detained and apprehended, yet the second suspect is still at-large. The arrested suspect also had a handgun on him when he was detained, according to the lieutenant.

Russ described the outstanding suspect as a black male, about 5-feet-10-inches tall, between the ages of 18 and 20 and wearing a white tee-shirt, dark shorts and a pair of solid red high-tops.

The vehicle, a 2006 Honda CR-V, was also recovered by police, the lieutenant said.

He also stated among the additional items seized during the attempted carjacking included the victim’s purse, which included her keys, cash and credit cards within.
