Cat Dies in Caltech Apartment Fire

Pasadena Fire units responded to a reported apartment fire in the 1000 block of East Villa Street on Thursday night to find a Caltech-owned apartment building on fire, Fire Dept. spokesperson Lisa Derderian said this morning.

The heavy smoke and fire were confined to one unit on the second floor, officials say.

Inside, firefighters found a pet cat. Despite attempts by emergency personnel to resuscitate the animal, it died at the scene.

There were no other injuries. Damage is estimated at $150,000.
