An enthusiastic group of 180 guests recently gathered in an elegant club atmosphere to support the work of the Pasadena Senior Center and enjoy an elegant evening of Zest, the annual gala to benefit the senior center.

The Zest event raised more than $68,000. Proceeds from Zest provide essential financial support to the vital programs and services of the Pasadena Senior Center, Southern California’s longest serving private non-profit senior center.

The Board President, Abel Ramirez, warmly welcomed guests to Zest. Zest Chair, Kelly Finney, did an exceptional job of organizing an evening that was both inspiring and delightful fun for all. Zest featured cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, a Silent Auction, a live auction, a full-course dinner, awards and comedy entertainment.

Fritz Coleman, popular NBC4 weathercaster lent his talent as Master of Ceremonies and entertainer of the evening. He had everyone in stitches with his hilarious take on life and getting older; guests said they hadn’t laughed so hard in years.

There was lively bidding on the many sought after auction items. Mayor Bogaard joined in the festive feel of the night, when he helped to draw the winning ticket for the Disney Park Hopper Tickets donated by Disney, which were won by Board Member Dorothy Graff.

Fritz Coleman donated a behind-the-scenes tour of the legendary NBC stages and an up-close and personal glance at the NBC4 news operation. His auction donation included four tickets to The Tonight Show, with Jay Leno, too. Susanne and John Combs won the NBC tour and tickets.

Of course, there were the inspiring tributes to the Zest honorees; who exemplify living to the fullest with zest, and contributing to the community. Kaiser Permanente, the 2012 Zest Award Recipient, was well represented by William Caswell, Rita Speck and Debbie Hernandez. Zest honorees Dr. Robert and Dr. Rita Palmer, of San Marino, brought proud family members along to support them. As a special surprise memento of the evening, the Palmer’s were given a program from the Cornell – University of Pennsylvania, their undergrad alma maters, football game in 1952 where the couple had their very first date.
