A suspect who led California Highway Patrol officers on a high-speed pursuit from Pasadena to downtown Los Angeles was shot and wounded when he rammed his vehicle into the patrol car of the officers who chased him into a dead end street, authorities said Monday.
The pursuit began just before 11 p.m. Sunday when the suspect failed to yield when officers attempted to stop him for speeding in Pasadena, according to the CHP.
It started on or near the I-210 Foothill Freeway and ended downtown in the 800 block of Commercial Street, where the suspect turned his vehicle around and rammed the CHP car, prompting the officers to fire their guns at him, CHP Officer Chris Baldonado told reporters at the scene.
The officers rendered aid to the wounded suspect and he was taken to a hospital by paramedics, Baldonado said.
The suspect had stable vital signs, according to Officer D. Orris of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Operations Center.
LAPD homicide detectives will investigate the officer-involved shooting.
