Rep. Judy Chu (D-Pasadena) and Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger have endorsed Jason Lyon for the Pasadena City Council.

“I am happy to announce my enthusiastic endorsement of Jason Lyon for Pasadena City Council,” Chu said in a statement released by the campaign. “Jason is a proven community leader with a long record of service. He cares about people, and he is dedicated to improving the quality of life for everyone in Pasadena. I look forward to working with him as District 7’s next Councilmember.”

Lyon, an attorney who serves as Vice Chair of the Pasadena Planning Commission, is running to replace retiring Vice Mayor Andy Wilson in the District 7 seat.

Pasadena’s District 7 is home to many of Pasadena’s iconic institutions, including the Pasadena Playhouse, Caltech, Pasadena Community College, the Langham Huntington Hotel, and the Constance Hotel. Beginning on its western border, District 7 is bounded by Arroyo Parkway, Fillmore, Marengo, California, Los Robles, Colorado, Oak, Del Mar, Craig, Rose Villa, Greenwood, Homet, Landor, and the city limits along Pasadena’s southern border.

Lyon is squaring off against Allen Shay and Ciran Hadjian for the seat.

“I am endorsing Jason Lyon for Pasadena City Council,” said Barger. “Jason’s record of service to our region is commendable, and I respect his promise to listen to every perspective in our community conversation. We share a deep commitment to providing housing that is affordable for hardworking individuals from varying income levels, and to addressing the needs of our unhoused neighbors. I look forward to partnering with Jason to develop practical solutions that help our mutual constituents.”

Lyon said he was proud to have the support of Chu and Barger.

“Congressmember Chu is a powerful advocate for our region in Washington, and she has always remained very connected to the needs of the people of this district. Supervisor Barger shares my commitment to constituent services, and I have always admired her compassionate leadership around mental health issues. I am looking forward to working with Congressmember Chu and Supervisor Barger on a coordinated regional response to our housing shortage and other critical concerns in District 7.”

Barger was elected in 2016 to represent the 5th District on the Board of Supervisors. The 5th District is the county’s largest, spanning 2,785 square miles, 20 cities, and 83 unincorporated communities in the San Gabriel, San Fernando, Crescenta, Santa Clarita and Antelope Valleys.

In addition to earning the support of Chu and Barger, Lyon is endorsed by State Senator Anthony Portantino, current District 7 representative Vice Mayor Andy Wilson, Councilmember Steve Madison, PCC Trustees Sandra Chen Lau and Tammy Silver, and dozens of other community leaders.
