City Announces Appointment of new Public Information Officer

Pasadena City Manager Michael Beck today announced the appointment of William H. Boyer as the City's new Public Information Officer (PIO)

Pasadena City Manager Michael Beck today announced the appointment of William H. Boyer as the City’s new Public Information Officer (PIO). Mr. Boyer assumes his new duties effective immediately in the City Manager’s Office.

“We’re delighted to announce Mr. Boyer’s arrival to replace outgoing PIO Ann Erdman, who recently retired after serving the City of Pasadena and its residents with distinction for 30 years,” City Manager Beck said.“William brings to us a strong background in government service and public information as well as online communications, journalism and TV programming that we feel is an ideal match for the City, our residents and businesses.”

Boyer most recently served as the Communications Director for the County of Santa Barbara where he was the County’s Chief Public Information Officer for emergency public information during a series of wildfires from 2007 to 2009 that destroyed hundreds of homes and forced thousands of residents to be evacuated.

He was the executive in charge of the County’s government television station, and, in 2009, chaired the County Employee Charitable Giving Campaign, raising more than $250,000 for United Way.In 2010, he oversaw the communications, marketing and public outreach for the County’s 2010 Census Count, a project that was honored with a statewide Merit Award from the California State Association of Counties (CSAC).

During his career, Boyer has won numerous other national, state and regional awards in government television programming, public information, marketing and journalism.He was the PIO for the City of Roseville, 2002-2006, and the PIO for the Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency, 2000-2002.

In addition, Boyer was a Senior PIO for the University of California, Irvine, 1996-1997, and the Marketing & Communications Director for Varatouch Technology Inc., 1998-2000, a small, high-tech start-up company in the Sacramento area specializing in infrared remote controls and computer mouse technologies.

Boyer began his career as a journalist, working for The Orange County Register, 1984-1990, and for Space News, 1990-1997.� He has written for The Los Angeles Times, Final Frontier Magazine, Air & Space Smithsonian and numerous other publications.
