Pasadena Police Chief Eugene Harris will report Wednesday to the Public Safety Committee on the results of the transition from the Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) standard to the California Incident Based Reporting System (CIBRS), an expansion of the FBI’s National Incident Based Reporting System (NIBRS).
The FBI transitioned to the NIBRS for data collection for all states on January 1, 2021, expanding the UCR crime data from the summary counts of eight crime categories to specific incident data for 52 crimes across 24 offense categories.
After the California Department of Justice (DOJ) transitioned to a state-level California Incident Based Reporting System (CIBRS), the Pasadena Police Department began the transition in June 2022.
Chief Harris will present how the department has been using the CIBRS since the transition, and how the new system has helped Pasadena monitor crime incidents and attempted crime incidents and prepare more substantial reports on the law enforcement situation.
The Public Safety Committee meeting begins at 4 p.m. The meetings are now available for public in-person participation.
Meetings are held at City Hall in the Council Chamber, Room S249 and are accessible online through http://pasadena.granicus.com/MediaPlayer.php?publish_id=9 and www.pasadenamedia.org.
