City Council, And City Committees and Commissions, Are Dark This Week

The City Council is dark this week due to the Thanksgiving holiday, but early next month the City Council will again deliberate on the appointment process for the District 3 selection.

Sometime after the next City Council is sworn in, Jason Lyon will replace outgoing Vice Mayor Andy Wilson who opted not to run for reelection, the City Council will vote to fill the second vacancy left by the death of former District 3 Councilmember John Kennedy.

The first vacancy, filled by current District 3 appointee Justin Jones, accounted for the remainder of the term Kennedy was serving when he died.

The upcoming appointment will fill the term Kennedy secured with his victory over Brandon Lamar in the June Primary.

When the City Council appointed Jones in September the process included presentations by the candidates seeking the seat and then prepared questions by the City Council and finally unscripted questions by the City Council.

Council members were required to report prior contact with the candidates.

It is not known if the process will change. Last time around an ad hoc committee consisting of several City Council members recommended the process.

The City Council has 75 days from Dec. 12 to fill the vacancy.

Other City Committees ad Commissions similarly have been canceled.
