The City Council approved election resolutions calling for a Primary Municipal Election for City Council members in Districts 3, 5, and 7 to be held on June 7 and the General Municipal Election, if necessary, on November 8.
Perspective candidates can pull papers to run for seats in those three council districts on Feb. 14.
The City Clerk will conduct two identical candidate workshops for candidates and/or their representatives on February 14 and Feb. 16.
Incumbents John Kennedy and Jessica Rivas will run for reelection in districts 3 and 5.
Vice Mayor Andy Wilson, who currently represents District 7 has announced he will not seek re-election.
The nomination period for the upcoming elections will close on Friday, March 11, 2022, at 5:00 p.m.
If the incumbent councilmember does not file nomination papers, or fails to qualify as a candidate by the March 11th deadline, the period to nominate any qualified person other than the incumbent is extended to Wednesday, March 16.
The General Municipal Election would be held only if a candidate will not receive more than 50% of the votes in the primary election.
Those who will get elected will sit in the council for four years beginning December 12, 2022.
