During its meeting on Monday, the City Council will vote on holding a public hearing on May 22 for the adoption of the Fiscal Year 2024 schedule of taxes, fees and charges.
Every year, as part of the annual budget process, the City Council reviews and adopts the schedule of taxes, fees, and charges, which include items such as Residential Impact Fees, Utility User Taxes, Construction Tax, Business License Taxes, and Animal License Fees.
According to the Department of Finance, the fee adjustments for 2024 will reflect changes in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) of all urban consumers in the Los Angeles, Long Beach and Anaheim Counties.
The CPI for all urban consumers in those counties increased by 5.0989% between March 1, 2022, and March 1 of this year.
“Staff is recommending an increase of 5.0989% to the flat amount rates to reflect the change in the most recent CPI data. Staff is not recommending changes to any tax rate, which is based on a percentage, because under Proposition 218, these changes are subject to electoral approval,” according to a City staff report.
