City of Pasadena Announces Pride Month Schedule of Events

The City of Pasadena is hosting a variety of events throughout June in celebration of Pride Month. This year’s events reinforce the City’s commitment to promoting equality and inclusivity for all.’

“We are proud to celebrate Pride Month in Pasadena and recognize the contributions and accomplishments of the LGBTQ+ community,” said Mayor Victor M. Gordo. “Our city values and embraces diversity, and we hope these events create opportunities for people of all backgrounds to come together, learn and have fun.”

Festivities kick off with the raising of the Pride flag at City Hall on June 1, a symbolic gesture of support for the LGBTQ+ community. Additional events during Pride Month include live music performances, book discussions, a movie showing, arts and crafts activities, and more.

Pride Flag Raising 

Thursday, June 1 • 12:30 p.m. • Pasadena City Hall, 100 N. Garfield Ave. 

Join Mayor Victor M. Gordo and the City Council for the Pride Flag Raising at Pasadena City Hall. 

Pride Movie in the Park
Saturday, June 106 -10 p.m. Central Park, 275 S. Raymond Ave.

The Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department and Old Pasadena Management District invite you to a showing of “To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar.” Come early to reserve your spot and enjoy pre-movie entertainment, a “Say Something Hat” contest and yummy snacks. This movie is rated PG-13. Therefore, some content may be inappropriate for children under 13. Viewer discretion is advised. For more information, call (626) 744-7500. 

Pride Month Celebration: Love, Loud & Proud!

Saturday, June 24 • 6 – 9 p.m. • Pasadena City Hall, 100 N. Garfield Ave. 

The Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department will host its 2nd annual Pride Month celebration, Love, Loud & Proud!, to champion Pasadena’s LGBTQ+ community. Enjoy entertainment, local food trucks, arts & crafts activities, face painting, a vaccine clinic (COVID-19, mpox, Hepatitis A and meningitis), and more with local LGBTQ+ organizations, community partners and allies. This is a free, family-friendly event with food available for purchase. For more information, call (626) 744-7500.

Take & Make and Drop-in Crafts: Wear Your Pride Thursday, June 1 • Pickup Hours: 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. • While supplies last 

Get a reusable tote bag to decorate with our custom stamps! Sign up for your bag at CityOfPasadena.LibWizard.com/f/PrideWear. Sign-ups begin on Thursday, June 1. Bags can be picked up at Hill Avenue Branch Library, 55 S. Hill Ave. Pick up your bag June 5 -10 and use the library’s decorating supplies to customize it. Those unable to snag a bag can bring their own bags or t-shirts to decorate! For ages 5+. 

Take & Make: Rainbow Melted Crayon Art 

Thursday, June 1 • Pickup Hours: 10 a.m.- 6 p.m. • While supplies last 

Make a work of art inspired by the book “Red: A Crayon’s Story” by Michael Hall. Using canvas and crayons, we’ll create rainbow artwork to celebrate identity, self-acceptance and Pride Month. Sign up for your kit at CityOfPasadena.LibWizard.com/f/Rainbow_Melted_Crayon_Art. Sign-ups begin on June 1. Kits can be picked up at Hastings Branch Library, 3325 E. Orange Grove Blvd. For ages 8+ with parental supervision. 

Take & Make: Rainbow Keychain
Thursday, June 1 • Pickup Hours: 10 a.m.- 6 p.m. • While supplies last 

Find your voice and show your PRIDE! Make a rainbow keychain. Sign up for your kit at CityOfPasadena.LibWizard.com/f/RainbowKeychain. Sign-ups begin on June 1. Kits can be picked up at any open Pasadena Public Library branch. For ages 9+. 

Take & Make: LGBTQ+ Pride Rainbow Windsock 

Thursday, June 1 • Pickup Hours: 10 a.m.- 6 p.m. • While supplies last 

Show your pride and support for the LGBTQ+ community by making a rainbow windsock that represents all the colors of the Pride flag. Sign up for your kit at CityOfPasadena.LibWizard.com/f/RainbowWindSock. Sign-ups begin on June 1. Kits can be picked up at Jefferson Branch Library, 1500 E. Villa St. For ages 5+.  

Take & Make: Pride Rainbow Bracelets 

Thursday, June 1 10 a.m. San Rafael Branch Library, 1240 Nithsdale Rd. 

Pick up your kit beginning Thursday, June 1, or come into the library to make these rainbow bracelets. They are simple to make and fun to wear. Available while supplies last. For ages 5+

Once Upon a Walk and Scavenger Hunt 

June 1 – 29 Tuesdays & Thursdays, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Saturdays, 2 – 6 p.m. Jefferson Branch Library, 1500 E. Villa St. 

Spend time outdoors while reading and following along to an illustrated book. Enjoy a delightful, heartwarming story about a young person who feels trapped by their identity. The story portrays parental support and love between siblings and boosts children’s literacy skills and well-being. Afterward, head into the library to participate in a Pride Month-themed scavenger hunt of important historical figures. For ages 3+. 

Author Gayla Turner: “Don’t You Dare: Uncovering Lost Love”

Saturday, June 3 3 p.m. Lamanda Park Branch Library, 140 S. Altadena Dr.  

Gayla Turner’s compelling story weaves together a current-day journey of discovery and a true-life love story between two women that took place over 100 years ago. Back then, the LGBTQ+ community loved and lived in the background of society because it was too dangerous to do otherwise. All were hidden, just like the wedding photos belonging to author Gayla Turner’s grandmother, Ruby. For ages 13+.

Pride Pets! Teen Cartoons and Crafts Drop-In Program 

Monday, June 5 • 4 p.m. Hastings Branch Library, 3325 E. Orange Grove Blvd. 

Drop by to enjoy some tasty snacks, watch cartoons featuring LGBTQ+ characters, and make a beaded lizard keychain using colors that show your Pride! For ages 13-19.

Pasadena Grows: Rainbow Sand Art Succulents
Saturday, June 24 • 10:30 a.m. • Hill Avenue Branch Library, 55 S. Hill Ave.

Find your voice through this combination of art and gardening. Register at Pasadena.Evanced.Info/Signup to claim your spot and supplies, then join us at Hill to put together your succulents celebrating Pride Month. For ages 5+.

Rainbow Mobile

Saturday, June 24 • 2:30 p.m. • Santa Catalina Branch Library, 999 E. Washington Blvd. 

Make a one-of-a-kind rainbow mobile using upcycled foam shapes, colorful yarn, and a vast array of other materials. Artist Toban Nichols will show you how to create your own personalized Pride vision to hang on a front door or display inside your home. All materials provided. Presented by Remainders Creative Reuse. For ages 18+.
