A fifth local resident infected with the Coronavirus has died city officials reported on Thursday.

Meanwhile, 13 new cases were reported bringing the Pasadena total to 107 cases according to Public Information Officer Lisa Derderian.

The numbers were announced hours after local police officers and firefighters honored health care workers at Huntington Hospital by flashing their lights and activating their sirens at the hospital.

Earlier Thursday, LA County officials reported 25 deaths and 425 news cases.

In total, 8.062 people in Los Angeles County have been infected by the virus, including the 107 residents in Pasadena.

“We know that all of the sacrifices, and they are huge sacrifices, that everyone is making is in fact slowing the spread,” said Los Angeles Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer. “But slowing the spread is a consistent activity that we have to continue to do for many days to come. So I ask you to have some patience.”

According to Ferrer, social distancing measures must continue for the next few weeks.

“I know that this new reality that we are living in is not forever. And that we are gonna come out at the other end in a matter of weeks,” Ferrer said.
