Property after the city spent thousands of dollars removing

The city is attempting to collect abatement costs for the removal of trash, debris and salvage material at local Pasadena house in the 500 block of Pepper Street near Lincoln Avenue and Forest Street.

In total, the city spent $23,831.69 to remove 200 cubic yards of debris after the homeowner ignored several notices dating back to Dec. 19 according to a staff report in the Aug. 6 Code Enforcement Commission agenda.

Two-hundred cubic yards of debris could amount to tons trash.

One cubic yard of material can be spread to cover about 100 square feet (10×10 foot area) at three inches of depth.

Code Compliance Manager Jon Pollard said some portions of the site had junk and debris 1.5 to 2 feet high.

Costs included more than $7,000 in warrant services and over $2,000 in on-site administration.

Pasadena Now could not reach the homeowner.

The city’s warrant allowed for the removal of trash rubbish paper, cardboard, glass, scattered newspapers, plastic and metal, nonfunctional household appliances not properly stored and exposed to the elements, wood and lumber, metal and miscellaneous mechanical parts.

Pollard said did not know the current status of the property.

“I don’t know if the homeowner is remaining in compliance or not,” Pollard said. “When the City left the site much of the 15,315 square foot site was bare dirt where trash/junk had been scattered.”

The meeting begins at 4 p.m. at  us02web.zoom.us/j/84345312216
