The Pasadena Commission on the Status of Women will continue discussions on establishing the board’s work plan for fiscal year 2020-21, during a special virtual meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2.

The annual work plan, in effect from July to the end of June, specifies the programs and activities the commission intends to pursue. These programs are in consonance with the commission’s primary purpose of advising the City Council on the special needs and concerns of women of all ages, races, religions, ethnic and cultural backgrounds, and economic and social circumstances.

Throughout the year, the Commission on the Status of Women organizes and leads outreach and awareness campaigns to stimulate discussions on the status of women of all ages and young girls, including taking part in such regular events as the YWCA Racial Justice Breakfast, the Southern California Women’s Health Conference, and activities of the League of Women Voters in Pasadena.

The Commission also actively takes part in the local planning and celebration of Women’s History month, and hosting community events and programs that encourage diverse attendees from across the San Gabriel Valley.

The commission also often organizes stakeholder meetings that are intended to encourage women in the community to identify the procedures for strengthening their linkages with the council and city departments. On a regular basis, the commission conducts quarterly updates, attends City Council meetings, and explores and identifies collaborative opportunities with other commissions, community groups, and other organizations.

Another possible item in Wednesday’s meeting would be initial discussions on the work of an ad hoc committee that will present the 2020-2023 Survival Guide, which is printed in hard copies and distributed to women in the community.

Wednesday’s virtual meeting can be accessed on Zoom through https://us02web.zoom.us/88529797613 or by phone by calling (669) 900-6833. The webinar ID is 885 2979 7613.
