No city committee or commission meetings are scheduled this week.

The City Council is set to hold a special meeting on Wednesday with Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger, but a meeting on the following Monday, April 5, has been canceled.

An important issue looms on the horizon when the City Council returns in April.

Discussion on the recently formed Community Police Oversight Commission is set to come back before the council on April 19.

It was not known what else would be discussed at that time.

Councilmembers have already started interviewing applicants for the 11-member commission.

On Saturday, District 5 Councilmember Jessica Rivas interviewed 10 applicants, and District 1 Councilmember Tyron Hampton is scheduled to interview 10 applicants on Tuesday.

Other councilmembers and the mayor have conducted one-on-one interviews with police commission candidates.

Three members from community organizations are also due to be appointed to the 11-member commission from a pool of 87 candidates.

Commissioners are required to participate in a ride-along with the Pasadena Police Department no later than 90 days after appointment to the commission. Commissioners will receive 30 hours of training in relevant subject matter areas.

According to the city’s website, “the purpose of the commission is to enhance, develop, and strengthen community-police relations, and review and make recommendations regarding the ongoing operations of the Police Department to the Chief of Police, City Manager, and/or City Council.”
