Pasadena’s Community Police Oversight Commission will be meeting on Thursday, Dec. 1, to receive a regular report and status update from the City’s Internal Police Auditor and to approve and discuss the Commission’s Work Plan Updates.

As a training item on the agenda, training consultant and curriculum developer K-Rahn Vallatine will present a program entitled ‘A Trauma-Informed Approach to Community Engagement,’ on Zoom.

The Community Police Oversight Commission (CPOC) regularly meets on the first Thursday of every month to review the ongoing operations of the Pasadena Police Department and make the appropriate recommendations to the chief of police, the city manager or to the Pasadena City Council, as part of its overall mission to enhance, develop, and strengthen community-police relations.

On Thursday, Pasadena Independent Police Auditor (IPA) Richard Rosenthal is expected to provide a status update on his work for the month of November, which included reviewing any police-related incidents in the city, including use-of-force incidents. The IPA works with the Commission’s policy ad hoc committee in reviewing the Police Department’s use-of-force policy, among other functions.

Following the IPA update, the Commission will go over updates on its current Work Plan, which is the guiding document as it strives to fulfill its commitment to make impactful change in community-police relations.

For fiscal year 2022-2023, the CPOC has set four key objectives: review Internal Affairs and use-of-force investigations; complete a comprehensive use-of-force policy assessment and review; review and assess the Pasadena Police Department’s training program; conduct CPOC-sponsored trainings for Commission, community, and Police

Department; and research and recommend mental health best practices and services.

Thursday’s meeting continues to be via videoconference and begins at 6 p.m. Members of the community may access the meeting through https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83714629907 or by calling (669) 900-6833 and using the webinar ID 837 1462 9907.
