The cause of death of a cougar that was found dead in the San Gabriel Mountains could not be determined, it was announced today.
The cougar was found on March 14 by hikers walking along a trail, according to the Cougar Conservancy.
The nonprofit organization’s Conflict Task Force, with cooperation from the Altadena Town Council, investigated the scene and spoke with residents in the area in an attempt to determine how the cougar died.
However, the Cougar Conservancy announced in a Facebook post on Tuesday that a cause of death could not be determined due to the body’s “postmortem state.”
“We appreciate the many residents of Altadena that have reached out to us for an update in this matter,” the conservancy posted. “We would also like to extend our appreciation to the community members who reported the incident, Altadena Town Council Member Dorothy Wong, and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.”
