The City Council will be dark for the next two weeks and return on July 12, according to the city’s website.
When the council returns, a public hearing will be held on the renewal of the Playhouse Village Property and Business Improvement District (PVPBID) for six years.
The PVBID pools financial resources and leverages public support to provide districtwide activities, advocate for improvements, and promote investment in the area.
“As we emerge from the impacts of the pandemic, the next PBID term will allow us to continue providing our critical services such as daily Ambassador Guides, street beautification, business recruitment, and promotions and marketing efforts to all Playhouse Village stakeholders.” the group said on the Playhouse Village website.
As part of its new vision for 2022-27, the group is listing:
- Enhanced maintenance and programming of new Playhouse Village Park
- Maintenance and Ambassador Guide presence at Lake Avenue Metro Station
- Implementation of the PVA’s Vision Framework and Streetscapes Plan – including next phases of recent Colorado Boulevard transformation
- Advocacy for land use and zoning reforms for North Lake Avenue
- Pursuit of public plaza and arts-centered development of the Playhouse/Madison site
The PVPBID was formed in 2001 for a five-year period. The district was renewed in 2006, 2011 and 2016 for additional five-year periods.
The renewal allows the PBID to continue to provide and manage supplemental services and improvements for the business center, including enhanced safety and maintenance services, a professional marketing and business promotion program, and a program of installing and upgrading physical amenities throughout the greater Playhouse Village.
The PBID enables Playhouse Village property owners, businesses and residents, to work as a unit, to continue to fund needed supplemental property and business-related improvement programs, services and programs.
The council is only scheduled to meet twice in July.
In August, the council is scheduled to discuss a possible time extension on a conditional use permit for the YWCA for building and construction of a two-to-six-story, 91,000 square-foot building for use as a hotel at the historic site.
On Aug. 16, 2016 the City Council approved a series of zoning entitlements for a hotel building, including rehabilitation of the building.
Approvals required by the Zoning Code on properties in zoning districts outside single-family residential, or RS, are valid for an initial period of three years unless an extension is granted.
