A man accused of violently attacking a woman at a Metro station and throwing her onto train tracks and into freeway traffic is scheduled for arraignment Tuesday, August 27.

Juan Pablo Flores, 33, faces charges of attempted murder and mayhem for the alleged assault that occurred on Aug. 7 at the Allen Metro station in Pasadena.

Prosecutors say Flores launched an unprovoked attack on the woman at approximately 5:30 a.m., punching her multiple times before throwing her onto the train tracks. He then allegedly dragged her across a cement divider and tossed her into the carpool lane of the adjacent 210 Freeway.

The victim managed to escape and return to the platform. She was hospitalized with injuries including a broken nose, head bruising and cuts throughout her body, authorities said. The victim was reported to be in stable condition.

Sheriff’s Transit Bureau personnel arrested Flores shortly after the attack, around 5:45 a.m., at the intersection of Allen Avenue and Villa Street. He is being held on $2 million bail.

Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón condemned the violence, stating, “No one should have to endure such brutality, and everyone deserves to go about their day without fear for their safety.”

If convicted, Flores could face a life sentence in prison.

The incident has raised concerns about transit safety, prompting calls for enhanced security measures on public transportation. County Supervisor Janice Hahn called for a comprehensive investigation to ensure adequate protection for commuters.

The attack came months after Metro Board members voted to create a dedicated police force for the agency.

Flores’ arraignment is set for 8:30 a.m. in Department D of the Pasadena Courthouse. The case number is 24PDCF00432.

Flores, born on April 19, 1991, could face life in prison if convicted.

Under the law, an indictment contains allegations, and every defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
