COVID-19 Infection Detected Among La Salle College Preparatory Football Team; Tonight’s Game Canceled

La Salle College Preparatory’s scheduled football game against Burbank High School tonight has been canceled after a member of the team tested positive for COVID-19, school officials have announced.

School officials were notified Thursday that a football team member had tested positive for the virus on Wednesday, according to La Salle Principal Jamal K. Adams.

School COVID-19 compliance officers were in the process of notifying other students who had been in close contact with the infected student within two days of the detected infection, he said in a written statement.

“Our COVID-19 Compliance Officers will only contact individuals and families who were directly in close contact with the student-athlete who tested positive,” he added.

After conferring with Burbank High School sports officials, the decision was made to cancel Friday’s football game, which was scheduled to take place at La Salle, “out of an abundance of caution,” Adams said.

La Salle was working on providing refunds to ticket holders for the game, he said. More details will be announced as the process is finalized.

Those with questions were encouraged to email La Salle College Preparatory at deans@lasallehs.org.
