Transmission of COVID-19 saw a slight increase in Pasadena over the past week, with 23 new infections detected on Friday, officials said.

No deaths related to the pandemic have been reported in the city since Oct. 6.

In total, the Pasadena Public Health Department had recorded 13,534 confirmed cases of the virus and 363 deaths.

Following two weeks of slow but steady decreases in infections, reaching 7.3 daily cases as of Oct. 20, the average number of daily infections over the prior week increased to 13.7 as of Friday, according to PPHD data.

Pasadena Unified School District officials documented 11 new infections among students, as well as two among staff members, over the prior week.

L.A. County saw 1,333 new infections and 25 deaths on Friday, raising the county’s pandemic totals to 1,490,698 positive cases of COVID-19 across all areas of L.A. County and a total of 26,626 deaths.

The L.A. County Department of Public Health listed 638 hospitalized COVID-19 patients throughout the county, with 28% of them being treated in intensive care units.

Friday’s daily test positivity rate was measured at 1.1%, according to county data.

L.A. County Director of Public Health Barbara Ferrer reminded residents that it is crucial that they isolate themselves for at least 10 days if infected, “even if they have no symptoms.”

“And everyone who is a close contact to an infected person and is not vaccinated needs to quarantine and not participate in activities with others,” she said. “This means not hosting or attending parties, going to work or school or shopping at stores. Breaking the chain of transmission requires that those infected or exposed do their part by staying away from others.”

Officials at the state level reported 7,098 new cases of COVID-19 and 111 deaths on Friday, bringing California’s totals to 4,647,587 infections and 71,519 fatalities.

The statewide weekly positivity rate increased to 2.8%, up from 2.1% as of last week, according to California Department of Public Health data.

As of Friday, L.A. County represented 32% of California’s COVID-19 infections and 37% of the state’s deaths.
