City: Pasadenans Can Contact Their Own Doctors for COVID-19 Testing Consideration

Affected residents may contact private doctors; Pasadena Health Department will coordinate sending specimens to LA County Health Department

Despite some confusion as to the availability of testing, Pasadena residents can contact their own private doctors for COVID-19 testing consideration, said a city spokesperson Tuesday.

“With the onset of testing in commercial labs, individuals can call their private physician for COVID-19 testing consideration,” said Lisa Derderian, Pasadena public information officer.

“If the physician’s office is able,” continued Derderian, “they can collect the appropriate specimen and process accordingly, or if the person requires emergency care, refer to the hospital.”

The Pasadena Public Health Department (PPHD) can also help coordinate sending the specimen to the Los Angeles County Public Health Lab or California Department of Public Health lab if the physician’s office does not have access to a commercial lab.

Currently, clinicians and laboratories are required to report all cases of COVID-19 to the Pasadena Public Health Department immediately by phone and submit a case report form.
