Two local nonprofits with nearly 100 years of experience between them, celebrated their recent merger with a ribbon cutting in Pasadena Friday morning.

AbilityFirst and FVO Solutions, will join together to expand their reach to service more than 2,000 developmentally disabled residents and their families throughout LA County. The two groups will now operate under the AbilityFirst name, and maintain its new manufacturing facilities on Fair Oaks Avenue.

AbilityFirst CEO Lori Gangemi welcomed US Congresswoman Judy Chu, Pasadena City Councilmember John Kennedy, and representatives from the offices of State Senator Anthony Portantino and State Assemblymember Chris Holden. Each of the elected officials presented the organization certificates of commendation and recognition for their work.

Congresswoman Chu called the merger “momentous,” and added that she has been proud to support the organization as long as she has been in office.

As facilities director Rob Wahlstrom explained, the company’s manufacturing arm holds contracts with the US Government and currently produces office supplies, specifically paper hole punch punchers, which it builds and assembles in its Pasadena facility.

Pasadena Councilmember Kennedy praised the work of both organizations and said “On behalf of Mayor Victor Gordo, and all of the City Council, we are with you, we are your friend, and we are ready to provide you with whatever resources are needed to grow this organization.”
