DMV Offers Way to Upload Documents Before Real ID Office Visit

Pasadena residents can now fill out an online application form for the new California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Real ID before actually going to the local DMV office to get the card.

The DMV office in Pasadena at 49 South Rosemead Blvd. continues to operate normal hours, according to posted information.

Starting October 1, Real ID will be required before anyone is allowed to board a flight within the United States or to enter military bases or secure federal facilities.

The DMV said Real ID requires more proof of identity or residence to obtain, and meets the new federal regulations for identification standards.

In an advisory Monday, DMV said people can now simply go online to fill out the application form and upload the required documents at home. When they go to the DMV office, the applicants will receive an “Express Experience,” the advisory said.

“No more excuses. No reason for Californians who want a Real ID not to come to an office,” DMV Director Steve Gordon said. “No appointment is needed, and now there is an option to bring your confirmation and be treated as if you have an appointment.”

Gordon said all the applicant needs to do is go online at home, fill out the form, upload their documents, and “bring those documents with your confirmation number” to the DMV office the same day or at your earliest convenience.

By uploading the documents at home, they can be authenticated prior to your visit, shortening the Real ID application process in the office.

After the online application process, applicants will see a confirmation number. They can then go to the DMV office in Pasadena, located at 49 S. Rosemead Blvd. the same day or whenever is convenient, and show their confirmation number to receive express service.

DMV Pasadena is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. You can also call (800) 777-0133 for more information.

In addition to Pasadena, DMV’s “Express Experience” is available now at 22 other DMV offices throughout the state.

DMV said more than 21,000 customers completed this process by the end of February, and DMV anticipates the new service will be available statewide by June.
