Together with the City of Pasadena, local nonprofit Day One has organized a festival featuring a forum with local candidates on climate issues and an expo where the public can participate in sustainability demos, art activities and more to celebrate Earth Day today.

The events will take place at the Levitt Pavilion Pasadena located in Memorial Park, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Both the forum and the expo will be free of charge and open to the public. Residents can register through godayone.org/events or bit.ly/EarthDayPasadena

The event will kick off with The Pasadena Candidate Climate Forum, where District 7 city council candidates Allen Shay and Jason Lyon will be asked questions regarding climate issues, public transportation, and energy.

This will run from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. and will be moderated by the League of Women Voters Pasadena.

Claudia Hathcock, Director Of Environmental Prevention Strategies for Day One said participants will have the opportunity to ask questions directly to candidates in-person and online via Day One’s Instagram @Day1Do.

“As local organizations, we believe it’s our duty to hold convenings like this forum to help residents learn who their candidates are, what they stand for, and how they plan to lead. Collaborations like The Climate forum help residents feel informed, valued and heard,” said Christy Zamani, Day One Executive Director.

The Earth Day Expo begins at 6:00 p.m. and will run until 8:00 p.m.

At the Expo, people can engage with the community organizations and eco-friendly businesses, participate in sustainability demos, eco-friendly art activities and learn about local efforts to be more water-wise, reduce waste and more.

The public can enjoy live music from local bands and food from food trucks like Pepe’s Red Tacos, Big Nash, and Velez Fruta Cart, according to Hathcock.

Businesses and organizations participating in the expo include Active SGV, Bans Up, Smart Time Rebate, Root Quencher, 301 Organics, Climate Reality Pasadena Building Electrification, Cha Cha, CA Native Plant Society, Pasadena Complete Streets Coalition, Amigos de los Rios, Arroyos & Foothills Conservancy and several others.

During the event, the public will also have the opportunity to safely dispose of unused, unwanted or expired medications at the Day One booth.

The organization will safely dispose of the medications in collaboration with the Pasadena Police Department.
