Police: Elderly Man Kills Ex-Wife, Attempts Suicide

Police report that a 78-year-old man murdered his ex-wife and then attempted to kill himself on Wednesday night in a home on Virginia Avenue.

Police responded at about 9:45 p.m. to a “call for service,” according to Pasadena police spokesperson Janet Pope Givens.

Arriving officers were met by the couple’s adult daughter, who told them that her 74-year-old mother was dead inside the home and her father was in his car in the home’s driveway and threatening to kill himself, Pope Givens said.

Officers were able to take the man into custody. He was found with syringes next to him inside the car, police said, and it is believed he had injected himself with an unknown substance. The suspect was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

Identies of the suspect and the victim have not yet been released.
